By: A not-so-old, TikTok-addicted music lover with a chaotic playlist.
Let me start by saying this: I’m not really the “concert type.” Or the “festival type.” Or the “screaming-in-the-crowd-with-glitter-on-my-face type.”
But… yesterday, after twenty years (yes, really – two full decades!), I went to a concert. And not just any concert – no, I went to see Usher. Mister smooth moves himself.
And yes, Usher is also famous for the cherries during his show. Love that! It’s brilliant marketing, but it also makes his concerts unforgettable. Thankfully, I wasn’t seated anywhere near his cherry route, because honestly… I don’t know what I’d do if he stood right in front of me.
Would I eat the cherry or not? That’s the question.
Before I left the house, my son said: “Mom, please don’t end up on social media eating Usher’s cherries!” 😂
Luckily, I didn’t have to find out what I would’ve done – because who knows how I would’ve reacted!
And you know what? It was fun. Like, really fun.
But honestly? Honestly, I’ve sometimes seen him better on TikTok and YouTube than in real life. Sorry, but it’s true. I mean, on-screen the lighting is perfect, the camera zooms in, and you don’t have someone in front of you doing a full workout during “Yeah!”.
Still – I was there. I experienced it. And that counts!
Music runs deep in me, that’s never been the problem.
My playlist? A hot mess, but a glorious one.
It’s like a musical buffet: from Chris Brown to Krezip, suddenly some Coldplay, followed by a guilty pleasure from the ‘90s (Backstreet’s back, alright!).
Some days I’m a soulful diva, other days I’m a sentimental poet cramming too many words into one line.
And yes – on Monday mornings I blast a song I don’t even know the lyrics to, but I sing like I’m up for a Grammy.
So no, it’s not about a lack of music love. I just don’t always need a crowd or a stadium to feel it.
Sidenote: I just got on TikTok and wow… a whole new world has opened up.
People are singing entire musicals in their kitchens! And you can “attend” concerts without leaving your house. Love it.
So no, I’m not a die-hard concertgoer. You probably won’t find me in the front row wearing a glitter top and a flower crown.
But give me music, a cozy spot, a good story, or just a solid beat – and I’m all in.
And in the meantime? I’m happily scrolling through TikTok.
And maybe, just maybe… I’m dancing along.
Love,
Jennifer
